Can you get an online doctor's note in Indiana? Not yet. CuroNote is launching soon in Indiana, where a physician licensed by the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana will review each request. Indiana has no statewide paid-sick-leave law, and state law blocks cities from creating their own, so a note requirement is set by your employer's policy.

Indiana sick-leave & employer-note context

Indiana has no statewide law requiring private employers to provide paid or unpaid sick leave, so sick time is set entirely by employer policy or contract. Indiana Code 22-2-16-3 also prohibits cities, towns, and counties from creating their own leave or benefit mandates, so there is no local ordinance to check either. Because no Indiana law limits documentation, an employer can generally require a note even for a single day off; a clear, dated note from a licensed physician typically satisfies that kind of policy.

How it works

  1. Tell us what’s going on

Answer a short, adaptive 2-minute form about your symptoms — not a static tick-box questionnaire.

  2. A clinician licensed in your state will review it

At launch, a licensed clinician will review your written answers, may ask a follow-up question, and can decline if a note isn’t appropriate.

  3. Get your note by email

At launch, notes will arrive as a PDF with a verification code. Turnaround targets will be published before we open.

Why Indiana has no sick leave mandate, statewide or local

Indiana doesn’t require private employers to offer paid or unpaid sick leave. Whether you accrue any sick time, and how you can use it, comes down to your employer’s own policy or an employment contract. Indiana Code 22-2-16-3 goes a step further and prohibits any city, town, or county from requiring an employer to provide leave, benefits, or working conditions beyond what state or federal law already requires. That’s why no Indiana locality, unlike Chicago or Philadelphia in neighboring states, has its own paid-sick-leave ordinance.

Because there’s no state sick-leave statute setting documentation limits, an Indiana employer can generally ask for a doctor’s note even for a single day off, as long as the policy is applied consistently. Federal laws such as the ADA and FMLA can still apply in specific situations and require an employer to keep any medical information confidential, but they don’t ban a reasonable note requirement.

Verifying a physician’s Indiana license

Physicians practicing in Indiana are licensed through the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana, administered by the state’s Professional Licensing Agency (PLA). The PLA’s free Search & Verify tool lets anyone check whether a specific physician holds an active Indiana license and review public disciplinary history. That’s a check on the doctor’s credentials, not on your personal note. If your employer wants to confirm anything about your own note, that’s a separate step that requires your permission.

Before CuroNote launches in Indiana

CuroNote hasn’t launched in Indiana yet. The site is currently in a pre-launch reserve phase: no payment is taken, and no physician is reviewing intake requests. Once live, a physician licensed in Indiana will review each request and, if appropriate, sign a note the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Will the doctors be licensed in Indiana?
Yes. Once CuroNote launches in Indiana, every note will be reviewed and signed by a physician holding an active Indiana medical license issued by the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana. You can check a physician's license status for free through the state's Professional Licensing Agency. CuroNote hasn't launched yet and isn't issuing notes.
Does Indiana require paid sick leave?
No. Indiana has no statewide law requiring private employers to provide paid or unpaid sick leave, and Indiana Code 22-2-16-3 blocks cities and counties from passing their own leave ordinances. Sick time depends entirely on your employer's policy.
Can my Indiana employer require a note for one sick day?
Yes. No Indiana law limits when an employer can ask for documentation, so a policy requiring a note even for a single day is generally allowed. Your employer can only confirm details about your specific note with your permission; checking a physician's license, by contrast, is public information anyone can look up for free.
